If you've ever visited Barcelona, you might have noticed that there are lots of dogs (in fact I think I'm going to have to do a 'Barcelona Dogs' post soon!). Go out early to mid-morning, or early evening, and it's dog-walking time. They even have their own little park areas to play in! In 'The Holiday Swap' I had to have a little dog star in Barcelona, as well as Daisy's massive Irish Wolfhound back in the UK - and she's a typical Barcelona pooch.
There are also horses, and I've recently discovered that the horses used by the Barcelona city police are stabled a short distance from our apartment - which explains why we see them ride past so often.
But what about cats? Well, I'm a big cat lover - which you might have gathered from all my cat photos on Twitter and Facebook. There are some pet cats in the city, I've caught more than one people watching from a balcony, but I've recently discovered a hippy cat commune!

These lovely cats are at Montgat Nord which is a small beach town just north of Barcelona. It's very easy to catch a train from the centre of Barcelona (and only cost a couple of euros - or one euro if you have a T10 ticket) - and there's the added bonus that the beach is fantastic. It's quiet and there are some lovely bars.
Local people feed the cats, and they live on the rocks on the beach, and a large rock mound opposite (the Montgat hill).
I just had to include Montgat Nord in 'The Holiday Swap' - it's a magical place, and a little bit of that hippy-cat mentality works wonders for Daisy!
The town is one of my favourite places for a day out when I'm in Barcelona - and well worth a trip. It's lovely to get out of the busy city, listen to the sea and watch the cats laze in the sun. Perfect.
